A volatile incident disrupted Brown University on Saturday as police tackled an active shooter situation on campus. The school’s alert system confirmed the officer-involved response, and officials said a suspect is now in custody.
The reported incident occurred near the Barus & Holley building, a seven-story complex that houses the School of Engineering and the Physics Department. This facility includes 117 laboratories, 150 offices, 15 classrooms, and 29 labs, according to Brown’s site.
City communications chief Kristy DosReis noted that authorities were still collecting details from the active scene, underscoring that information was evolving.
Brown University, a private nonprofit Ivy League institution, enrolls roughly 7,300 undergraduates and just over 3,000 graduate students, per the university’s official figures.
Saturday marked the second day of final exams for the fall term, adding another layer of disruption to a campus already under stress from testing and routine activity.
