A dramatic late equalizer by Harry Kane saves the day! Bayern Munich's star player came to the rescue, securing a point after a shocking error by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. This thrilling match also marked the end of Vincent Kompany's perfect record with his team, as Union Berlin put up a fierce fight.
From the very start, Union Berlin, undeterred by their opponent's perfect start to the season, took the game to Bayern. They even thought they had taken the lead when Ilyas Ansah headed the ball home after a header from Tom Rothe. However, the stadium was silenced when VAR officials intervened, revealing that the Ghanaian striker was offside.
Bayern, who had been dominating the 2025-26 season, found themselves challenged by Steffen Baumgart's side, who battled relentlessly for every loose ball. Despite Bayern's control of the ball, they struggled to create any significant chances.
In the 27th minute, Union Berlin deservedly took the lead. A corner from Janik Harberer wasn't cleared by the visitors, and the ball fell to Doekhi at the edge of the box. His deflected shot somehow found its way past Neuer, who uncharacteristically fumbled the save.
But here's where it gets controversial... Bayern quickly responded, equalizing just ten minutes later with their first shot on goal. Luis Diaz showed incredible skill, saving the ball from going out of bounds and then turning to fire a shot into the net from an almost impossible angle.
Union didn't let up after the break, continuing to pressure their opponents. Meanwhile, Michael Olise missed a chance in the 60th minute, his shot easily saved by the goalkeeper.
As the game went on, Union began to defend deeper, inviting pressure but successfully repelling Bayern's attacks. Union's wing-backs, Rothe and Janik Harberer, along with their replacements, defended admirably against Olise and Luis Diaz, forcing Bayern to recycle the ball.
Their defensive efforts paid off when Olise fouled Kohn, leading to a free kick that Doehki converted, giving Union a 2-1 lead in the final 10 minutes.
Bayern then launched an all-out attack. Finally, in injury time, Kane, who had a relatively quiet game, headed in a cross from Oliver Bischof. This marked the first time Kompany's side had failed to win a competitive game this season, a significant achievement for Steffen Baumgart and his team.
